Wike vs Fubara: Labour Unions and Stakeholders Protest in Support of Gov. Fubara

477

It was earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu intervened and brokered a peace deal between Governor Fubara of Rivers(PDP) and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), former governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike(PDP).

The “agreement”, as reported encapsulated in an eight-point resolution, was said to have been signed by both Governor Fubara and Minister Wike.

However, in a surprising event, various influential bodies, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Labour Centres, ITC, and Traders, staged a demonstration today in Port Harcourt to express unwavering support for Governor Sim Fubara.

It should be recalled that Rivers State has been embroiled in a heated power struggle between the incumbent Governor Fubara, and the immediate past Governor Nyesom Wike.

It was earlier reported, however, that following Tinubu’s mediation, the State Assembly took a decisive step by withdrawing the impeachment notice previously served against Governor Fubara.

But the streets of Port Harcourt witnessed a show of solidarity today as demonstrators marched in support of Governor Fubara.

Observers are still asking questions about whether the President’s ” intervention ” has ended the state’s political crisis or it was only a pause.
