In response to recent reports circulating online, the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division has denied allegations of arresting and killing 11 Fulani individuals, raiding houses, and stealing valuables, including money and dried ginger in the Kaduna Forest.

According to a statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations of 1 Division, the Nigerian Army is committed to upholding the rule of law and respecting the fundamental human rights of all citizens.

He emphasized on professionalism and dedication to the Nigerian people, representing diverse backgrounds across the country.

The incident in question took place on December 21, 2023, when troops responded to a kidnapping incident in the Crossing general area of Kachia Local Government.

The troops neutralized three kidnappers, while one escaped with a gunshot wound and was later apprehended. The division clarified that their actions were a response to criminal activities and not targeted at any particular ethnic group, the statement noted.

On December 30, 2023, the first military operation in Tilden Fulani occurred, leading to the arrest of Mr. Ibrahim Abubakar, suspected of involvement in insurgent activities.

During the investigation, Abubakar revealed information about others in the community possessing automatic weapons, triggering another raid. However, upon reaching the village, the suspects had fled, and no incriminating evidence was found.

Lieutenant Colonel Yahaya emphasized that at no time did troops kill or execute any Fulani herder or innocent citizen, nor did they engage in theft.

The division dismissed the allegations as a smear campaign aimed at undermining its efforts to combat insurgency and terrorism in the area of responsibility.
