After New Deputy Governor Prostrated for Yahya Bello, his Nephew With Fraud Case Appointed as New Cos

492

As the dust settles after the inauguration of Usman Ododo as the new Governor of Kogi State, controversy looms large over his choice for the position of Chief of Staff.

The appointment of Ali Bello, nephew of former Governor Yahaya Bello, has sparked outrage and raised serious questions about the integrity of the administration.

Ali Bello’s appointment comes amidst ongoing legal proceedings against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The young scion of the influential Bello family stands accused of involvement in a staggering N3 billion fraud case.

The EFCC, in its prosecution, alleges that Bello, along with several others, including Abba Adauda, Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege, Iyada Sadat, and even the former Kogi First Lady, Rashida Bello, were involved in money laundering and misappropriation of public funds. The charges, totalling 18 counts, paint a damning picture of corruption at the highest levels of governance.

Despite these grave allegations hanging over his head, Ali Bello’s swift elevation to the position of Chief of Staff has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters.

Many see it as a brazen display of impunity and disregard for due process, undermining public trust in the government’s commitment to fighting corruption.

The decision by Governor Ododo to appoint someone embroiled in such a serious legal battle has reignited concerns about the prevalence of nepotism and cronyism in Nigerian politics.

It also raises doubts about the new administration’s commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in public office.

This appointment is coming after the new Kogi State Deputy Governor, Salifu Joel Oyibo, on Saturday prostrated himself before the immediate past governor of the state immediately after he was sworn in. Oyibo’s wife also knelt before the ex-governor.
