Nigerian Athlete Ese Brume Shifts Focus to U.S. for Paris 2024 Olympics Qualification After Chinese Visa Denial

Ese Brume, the reigning Commonwealth Games and African long jump record holder has redirected her efforts towards qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics in the United States. This decision came after the Chinese Embassy in Lagos denied her visa, preventing her from participating in the Diamond League in Suzhou.

Brume, aiming to achieve the 6.86m mark for automatic qualification to the Paris 2024 Games, faced disappointment as the Chinese Embassy refused to issue her visa for the Suzhou event. Her coach, Kayode Yahaya, expressed surprise and confusion over the refusal, as they had submitted all relevant documents as required.

Despite this setback, Brume remains determined and will soon return to the U.S. to continue her quest for Olympic qualification. Last month in Accra, Ghana, she achieved the qualification mark during the African Games with a 6.92m gold.
