Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu for its alleged covert continuation of the fuel subsidy

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Federal Government’s deployment of soldiers in Kano amidst the ongoing tussle over the throne of the ancient city.

In an X post, Atiku, a 2023 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), argued that this action breached the 1999 Constitution as amended and may disrupt the peace and security of the state.

Atiku highlighted that the Kano State House of Assembly (KSHA) had lawfully passed the amended Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024, in line with section 4 of the constitution.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf subsequently signed the bill into law, thereby repealing the 2019 legislation which had divided the ancient Kano Emirate into five smaller entities.

Atiku noted that these actions were executed within the legal framework and by the powers granted to the governor by section 5(2) of the 1999 constitution.

The decision was made in consultation with the Kingmakers of Kano, leading to the reappointment of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, also known as Muhammadu Sanusi II, as the 16th Emir of Kano, and an official letter of appointment was handed to him.

The former VP expressed shock over a recent report that, around 5:30 a.m. today, the former Emir of Kano, His Majesty Aminu Ado Bayero, supported by federal forces, entered the Nasarawa Palace of the Kano Emirate.

Meanwhile, the reappointed Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was at Gidan Dabo, the main residence of the Emir of Kano.

Atiku emphasised Kano State’s historical peace and harmony and warned the Tinubu-led administration against actions that could destabilise the region.

He recalled that Kano maintained its peace even after Sanusi II’s dethronement on March 9, 2020.
