Delta State EXCO Approves N936 Billion Budget Proposal For 2025

The Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved a proposed budget of N936 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, following a council meeting led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

In a press briefing, State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr Sonny Ekedayen, stated that the budget allocated N587.4 billion (62.75 per cent) for capital expenditure, while N348.7 billion (37.25 per cent) is set aside for recurrent costs.

Flanked by the Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, and others, Ekedayen explained that the budget is based on an exchange rate of ₦1,300 per dollar. “The budget size is N936.07 billion, broken down into capital and recurrent components of N587.36 billion capital, representing 62.75 per cent, while the recurrent component is N348.71billion, representing 37.25 per cent,” Ekedayen stated.

“It’s a 29.12 per cent increase larger than the current year’s budget”. He emphasised on the dedication to advance state development in key areas like agriculture, MSME support, youth empowerment, tourism, infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

Ekedayen also affirmed that the budget will be entirely self-funded, with no borrowing. Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) funds and internally generated revenue, expected to reach N140 billion, will be the primary sources. The proposal will soon be presented to the State House of Assembly for further discussion.

Commissioner for Information, Osuoza, added that the Delta State EXCO also approved several projects to benefit communities statewide and has directed strict oversight to ensure high standards. Among the approved appointments were HRM, Dr Greg N. Oputa, as the Obi of Aboh in Ndokwa East, and Professor Epiphany Azinge, SAN, as the Asagba of Asaba Kingdom in Oshimili South Local government area.

Infrastructure projects include the rehabilitation of Ugwhrughelli/Ehidi Road, the construction of Lyn Ivie Akporiche Street, and other roads in Ughelli North, Asaba, and Jeddo.

“We also approved the construction of oil road/ old Okpe road in Jeddo Okpe Local Government. Exco also approved the construction of Ejeba road extention/Jelink road and the extention/Olomoro road in Isoko South Local Government.”

Commissioner for Works, Mr Charles Aniagwu, added that contractors with delayed projects will face review, and new roads such as the Uzere Asaba-Ase Bridge and internal roads at Issele-Uku NYSC Camp are also approved.

Commissioner for Riverine Infrastructure, Hon Ebikeme Clark, confirmed the construction of a Model Secondary School in Oporoza and an access road to the Nigerian Maritime University in Warri South-West, highlighting efforts to connecting riverine communities to foster development.
