Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight Sweeps NAACP Image Awards With Five Wins

Tyler Perry’s Netflix film The Six Triple Eight emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 2025 NAACP Image Awards, securing all five awards it was nominated for.

The Six Triple Eight is a historical drama based on the true story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female unit to serve overseas during World War II. The film follows these 855 women as they take on the monumental task of sorting and delivering millions of undelivered letters and packages to U.S. soldiers in Europe.

The ceremony, held on February 22 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California, celebrated excellence in film, television, music, and literature.

Kerry Washington won Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in The Six Triple Eight, delivering an emotional speech as she expressed genuine shock at her victory.

You know how on awards shows when people look surprised, I never believed that they’re really surprised until Beyoncé at the Grammys, Washington said.

But I’m just shocked. I’m shocked. Because the women that I’m nominated with are so extraordinary. I love you all so much. I’m honored to be in a category with you, Washington admitted, acknowledging the incredible talent in her category.

She dedicated the award to her family, the film’s team, and, most importantly, the real-life women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, whose story the film brings to life.

The night also saw Keke Palmer named Entertainer of the Year, while Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter won Outstanding Album, tying her with Whitney Houston for the most wins in that category. Beyoncé also took home her eighth Outstanding Female Artist award. Meanwhile, her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, won the Outstanding Character Voice Performance award for Mufasa: The Lion King.
