Denmark has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Burkina Faso. Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo received Nygaard Markussen, Denmark’s Special Representative for the Great Lakes and the Sahel, during today’s audience in Ouagadougou.

Accompanied by Kristian Kirkegaard Edinger, Denmark’s current ambassador to Burkina Faso, Ms Markussen discussed prospects with the Burkinabè Head of Government for deepening the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

Speaking after the meeting, Ms. Markussen stressed that their discussions focused on the global geopolitical situation, regional developments, and the state of bilateral relations.

Denmark respects the sovereign decisions of each country. We are a small country that also makes sovereign decisions, she stated, before praising the strength of the relationship between Burkina Faso and Denmark, which is based on almost 40 years of cooperation in areas such as agriculture and access to drinking water, among others.

Having previously served as Denmark’s ambassador to Burkina Faso 15 years ago, Ms Markussen’s return underscores the ongoing commitment of both countries to deepen their partnership based on mutual respect’s priorities and values.
