Last July, it was announced that a sequel to the 2006 comedy “The Devil Wears Prada” was officially in the works at Disney. Disney has now officially set the sequel’s May 1, 2026 theatrical release date.

Meryl Streep is set to be reprising her role as the formidable fashion editor Miranda Priestly. The original film, a beloved classic, stars Anne Hathaway as Andrea Sachs, a journalism graduate struggling to survive as Priestly’s junior assistant at the high-powered Runway magazine.

The sequel is set to follow Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing, facing off against Emily Charlton, portrayed by Emily Blunt, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with crucial advertising dollars.

Aline Brosh McKenna, the screenwriter for the original film, is in talks to return to pen the new chapter. The details regarding the return of other original cast members remain unclear.

The Devil Wears Prada was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel about a young woman’s hellish experience working at a fashion magazine. The Devil Wears Prada was a box office sensation, grossing $326.7 million worldwide. The film earned Meryl Streep a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy and an Academy Award nomination. Additionally, Patricia Field received an Oscar nomination for the film’s costume design.

Disney will drop further information about the sequel in the coming months.
