A terrorist attack struck the Malian military base in Tessit, Gao Region, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The assault began around 3:00 PM local time.

According to a statement from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mali (EMGA), armed terrorist groups carried out the assault. The exact number of attackers and casualties has not been confirmed.

In response, the Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) launched immediate aerial patrols and counter-operations. Fighter jets and surveillance drones were deployed to track and target the assailants.

The military said its troops remain fully mobilised to protect civilians and secure national territory. Reinforcements have been sent to the area. Tessit, located in the volatile tri-border zone between Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, has seen repeated attacks from jihadist groups linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State. These groups often target military outposts and civilian populations.

The government has urged residents to stay calm and cooperate with security forces. Similarly, FAMa successfully repelled a terrorist attack on their base in Boulkessi, near Douentza, early Sunday morning, June 1, 2025.

According to an official military statement, troops in the area responded swiftly and decisively. Several attackers were killed, with some reportedly unidentifiable due to the intensity of the counter-assault.

In follow-up operations, FAMa destroyed multiple terrorist hideouts in the surrounding area. Search and clearance efforts are still ongoing to eliminate any remaining threats and fully restore security.

The Chief of the General Staff praised the bravery of the troops and urged them to remain vigilant. He reaffirmed the army’s commitment to protecting civilians and securing Mali’s territory from extremist groups.
