Nigerien troops thwarted a planned terrorist attack near the town of Wanzarbé on Wednesday, June 4, destroying armed militants reportedly gathering in the Gorouol region.

According to AESInfo, the terrorists had assembled to plan an assault on the Wanzarbé military base, taking advantage of the Eid celebrations to catch the army off guard. However, intelligence gathered by the Nigerien Armed Forces prompted a swift and strategic counteroffensive.

The army launched a proactive operation, targeting the militants before they could carry out their plans. The operation resulted in the “pulverization” of several high-ranking terrorist leaders and their operatives.
