The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a partial restoration of electricity supply to seven states in the northern region affected by a prolonged blackout due to the vandalisation of the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line.

The power supply was reinstated to Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe States as of 4:56 p.m. Wednesday after repairs on the 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1 was completed. The announcement was made in a statement signed by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs.

This development relieves the affected states, which have endured a nine-day blackout. TCN initially reported a power outage on October 22 affecting the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central due to a fault on the 330 kV Ugwuaji–Apir double circuit transmission lines 1 and 2, which tripped at 4:53 a.m.

The company stated that while its engineers quickly identified the source of the fault, security concerns hindered immediate repairs, prompting President Bola Tinubu to order full security support for TCN personnel.

After overcoming these security challenges, engineers completed repairs on the vandalised transmission line, allowing power restoration to commence.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has successfully restored bulk power supply through its 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1 as of 4:56 pm today, following the completion of repairs on the vandalised section of the line, the TCN statement read.

TCN announced that the Apir-Lafia 330kV transmission line 2 is operational, enhancing power stability across the affected regions.

Before the total blackout, there was a power outage in some parts of Kano and Kaduna states after vandals reportedly destroyed two towers belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
