A baby who was stolen by her nanny and sold for N800,000 has been found at Alade Market in the Shomolu area of Lagos State.

The baby, who is believed to be less than a year old, was abandoned in the market by the buyer after the maid, who was identified as Ruth Okezie, confessed to have sold her for that amount.

Ruth reportedly absconded with the baby from home, in Shomolu around 2 am on Saturday, 3, February. An X user, @Danysleek, had raised an alarm on Saturday about the abduction of the child by a maid who was hired through an agency.

After the alarm went viral on social media, the maid was apprehended in Ikorodu without the baby but confessed to have sold the baby for N800,000 to an unidentified person.

However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, this morning disclosed that the baby had been found. He said, “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.

“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her,” he posted on X.

Danysleek, who raised the alarm, also confirmed the return of the baby to her family. He posted, “Update: Goodnews Twitter fam!

THE BABY HAS BEEN FOUND! MUNACHIMSO HAS BEEN FOUND!

She has been reunited with her parents in perfect health. Glory to God forever! Thank you so much Twitter fam for coming through with your retweets, God bless y’all.”

The police are still searching for the buyer of the baby as he or she is still on the run. “Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run,” Hundeyin said.
