CJ “Fiery” Obasi’s Mami Wata has bagged a nomination for the 2024 National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.

Mami Wata will go up against Anatomy of a Fall, Brother, Rye Lane and Society of the Snow in the Outstanding International Motion Picture category.

Directed and written by Obasi, the black and white movie continues to sour high on the international scene, having been selected in multiple film festivals across the world.

Speaking with West Africa Weekly, Obasi said, “The NAACP Image Awards seeks to honour us and the work we create. So, to be recognized in that way is very special. I don’t take any of it for granted. Feeling really blessed.”

Winners in this non-publicly-voted category will be revealed on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 8:00 PM ET/PT on BET and CBS.

Among other Nigerian nominees are Tems for Outstanding Female Artist, Burna Boy for Outstanding Hip Hop/Rap Song, and Ayo Edebiri, recognized as Outstanding Supporting Actress for her roles in The Bear and Abbott Elementary.
