Content Creator Kingsley Adegwu, Arrested During Peaceful Protest in Lagos

According to reports, comedian and online content creator, Okpe Kingsley Adegwu, was arrested on Sunday afternoon by the police around Ikate, Elegushi gate.
He was arrested while walking with a placard that read: “NIGERIANS SUFFERING IS TOO MUCH. TINUBU DO SOMETHING.”
Since his arrest, Adegwu has been detained at the Lagos Police Command Headquarters, CP Special Squad 1, according to Human Rights Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong on X.
The report comes barely hours after the Inspector-General of Police assured the nation that no peaceful protesters were arrested, while addressing a virtual meeting with stakeholders and Civil Society Organisations on Tuesday.
He dismissed the reports as “fake news,” thereby making Adegwu detention a direct contradiction to the statement by the Inspector General of Police.
Effiong wrote on X, calling for the immediate release of Adegwu: “We have been told that he will be kept in detention till the end of the nationwide protest. That will be unacceptable and illegal,” Effiong wrote.
