The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has disclosed that eight local government areas in Zamfara will likely experience moderate flooding during the 2024 rainy season.
This was revealed during a sensitisation event held in Gusau, where the agency emphasised the need for early warning strategies to mitigate the impact of floods.
As previously communicated by NEMA to the state government, the areas likely to be affected include Bungudu, Bakura, Gummi, Gusau, Maradun, Shinkafi, Talata Mafara, and Zurmi.
The agency urged stakeholders to support disseminating this information at the grassroots level.
It also stressed the need for community involvement in disaster risk management, saying, “We must work together to safeguard at-risk communities, protect critical infrastructure and support uninterrupted socio-economic activities in Zamfara.”
