The former Youth Leader of the Labour Party in Edo State, Ken Omusi, on Thursday, declared himself the new acting chairman of the Party in Edo.

Omusi dissolved the state executives of the party, led by Kelly Ogbaloi.

He said, “As we speak today, the state executive of the party led by Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi as the former state chairman and comrade Akhere as the secretary are hereby dissolved.

“All the 18 local government working committee and all the ward working committee are also hereby dissolved.

“A three man committee would be constituted for the state down to the ward level, so that we can call all our aggrieved people and put our house together before the forthcoming governorship election.”

Speaking at the secretariat, Omusi told the press that he was doing this for the “general welfare of Edo people, and Nigeria at large.”

A member of the party in Edo who pleaded anonymous told West Africa Weekly that Omusi was suspended on Wednesday because of “his stand for being just and believing in equity and justice.”

The source said the party candidate for the governorship election, Olumide Akpata, was thinking that Omusi will not support him and so, (Akpata) pressurised the state working committee to suspend Akpata. He added that the former Youth Leader was suspended without due process.

According to the source, the state party members are waiting for the next directive from the national working committee.

“The national working committee have not said anything about it. They are still quiet.”

Furthermore, Omusi has written to the First Bank in Circular Road, Edo, to freeze the bank account of the Labour Party in Edo State for now, pending when they get the next directive from the national working committee.
