Lady Gaga Pre-Recorded Her Olympics Opening Performance To Dodge Rain

Lady Gaga’s electrifying start to the 2024 Olympics in Paris wasn’t live as it seemed – her rendition of Zizi Jeanmaire’s “Mon Truc En Plumes” was pre-recorded to avoid potential rain showers.

The pop icon’s visually stunning performance, capturing the essence of French elegance, was captured hours ahead of the ceremony’s kickoff.

Olympic and Paralympic opening ceremony choreographer Maud le Pladec told Variety, “We had to be extremely cautious,” remarked Le Pladec, citing the slippery riverfront stairs and the risk to performers and Gaga in heels.

“Unfortunately, it was the only [performance] that, for safety reasons, we had to pre-record late in the afternoon,” Le Pladec said. “Once we knew for sure that it was going to rain — we had minute-by-minute updates, we had never watched the weather forecast so closely in our lives — we assessed that it would be too dangerous for performers, even with a few drops of rain.”

She added, “[Gaga] wanted to do it absolutely, so we preferred to pre-record it rather than cancel it.”

Reflecting on the honour of singing a French classic, Gaga took to X and expressed gratitude to the Olympic committee and the French people. “I hope you love this performance as much as I do,” she gushed, cherishing the opportunity to celebrate French culture on a global stage.
