Lagos DSVA to Investigate Domestic Violence Incident Involving SirJarus

The Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has responded to a tweet made by Suraj Oyewale (known as SirJarus), stating that the agency takes allegations of domestic violence very seriously. In their statement issued on Friday, the DSVA emphasised that domestic violence in any form is unacceptable and that the Lagos State Government maintains a zero-tolerance stance against it.

This response follows a post by SirJarus, the CEO of Jarus Homes, Travels, etc., who admitted to physically abusing his wife to force her into accepting his decision to take a second wife. SirJarus, a Muslim, has been married for 13 years and recently decided to take a second wife.

The situation escalated when the first wife’s sister, using a burner account, exposed SirJarus on social media, accusing him of hypocrisy and revealing that he had beaten his wife to make her accept the new marriage.

In his response, SirJarus admitted to beating his wife out of frustration.

He explained that he knew taking a second wife would cause issues and tried to appease his first wife with gifts, including a 5 million Naira gift, 700k jewellery, a 1.2 million Naira land in her hometown (with plans to build a mansion for her within three years), and another 500k Naira gift. Despite these efforts, his wife allegedly took his information to a TikTok user, Mayowa Adesoga, to bewitch him from marrying the 21-year-old woman.

SirJarus said he discovered this through an intercepted voice note and found fetish items in his wife’s room, prompting him to chase her out of the house.

He claimed that his wife had deeply frustrated him since he informed her about his plans to marry a new wife, often threatening him with hell and heaven.

He said:

If anyone sits on a man’s neck at midnight, starts pulling his shirt, and says if he doesn’t beat her, he is a bastard, no man will tolerate that, especially after begging all night and pleading.

While the case has gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), prompting Nigerians to call out the CEO on his actions, the domestic violence agency said they have referred the case to the Commissioner of Police (Gender Desk Department) to ensure that an investigation commences.

They appreciated those who tagged them and brought the matter to their attention.

Meanwhile, SirJarus has since deleted his posts and locked his X account, making it inaccessible to viewers.
