The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the seizure of three dogs alleged to have attacked a security guard in Pinnock Estate, Ilasan, Lekki.

The dog’s owner, identified as Salisu Mustapha, is currently in police custody following the incident, which occurred on the night of November 5, 2024.

The attack, which claimed the life of the unidentified security guard, has drawn widespread attention after a disturbing video circulated on X (formerly Twitter), showing the guard’s lifeless body as the dogs circled him.

According to reports, the Boerboel dogs were roaming freely in the estate when they reportedly mauled the guard to death. Posts online suggested the dogs were inadvertently let loose by their owner.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the arrest of Mustapha in a statement issued on Wednesday, emphasising that the confiscated dogs are receiving appropriate care to avoid any breach of animal rights.

Following the unfortunate mauling of a security guard to death by three dogs in Pinnock Estate, Ilasan, Lekki, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested the owner of the dogs, Salisu Mustapha, and confiscated the dogs pending the outcome of discreet investigations that have since commenced, Hundeyin said.

He further assured residents that a thorough investigation is underway and that justice will be served. In response to public concern over the dogs’ welfare, Hundeyin clarified that the animals are under humane care by the Command’s K-9 unit, stressing that “We do not condone cruelty to animals.”

Hundeyin also addressed claims made by users on X, one of which was a reply to #Arojinle, who questioned the dogs’ involvement in the guard’s death.

Well, I do not want to post gory pictures of the bloodied bite marks and tears on the victim’s body from head to toe. In any case, the investigation is ongoing, Hundeyin said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Ishola, has assured Lagos residents that the investigation will be concluded promptly, and any responsible parties will face appropriate legal consequences.
