At least one person was reported dead, while three others were injured after the official motorcade of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai was involved in a fatal road accident early Wednesday morning along the Robertsfield Highway in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.

According to reports, Boakai was on his way to an official function when the convoy with plate number EPS#65 crashed into a moving tricycle (Keke) intending to cross to the other side of the road. The rider of the tricycle died instantly, while the three passengers onboard sustained severe injuries.

Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah noted that the Executive Mansion will issue an official statement on the situation and said those involved had been taken to the hospital.

“We are on our way to the hospital with the president, and the Emansion will do what is needed,” Piah said.

New Dawn reported that Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana confirmed the accident and one death; however, reports indicate one of the three injured victims taken to the ELWA Hospital in the same vicinity subsequently succumbed to death.
