Lagos State Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gbolahan Oyedemi was found dead at his residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, in what appeared to be a suicide.

Oyedemi was an officer serving with the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Alagbon, Lagos State. He was found hanging in his private residence on Monday, sending shockwaves through the law enforcement community.

The circumstances surrounding his death are shrouded in mystery, as investigators scramble to unravel the tragic incident. According to initial reports, Oyedemi had returned to his hometown for Easter celebrations alone. The unfortunate event happened at his residence at Petros Academy Street in Ogbomoso.

Speaking to VANGUARD, a source alleged that Oyedemi battled “personal demons”, suggesting a long-standing struggle with depression. Some neighbours described him as a solitary figure, often seen alone.

While the truth of the situation remains unclear, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading up to his death. The Police Public Relations Officer of FCID, Alagbon, DSP Eguaoje Funmilayo, confirmed Oyedemi’s passing and emphasised the need for a comprehensive probe to determine the cause.

“No one can tell specifically what the cause of his death is until an investigation is carried out. There is no official statement from the Inspector General of Police yet”, Funmilayo stated.

Oyedemi’s untimely demise has left his colleagues and the law enforcement community in shock and mourning. The deceased officer had previously served in various capacities within the police force and earned accolades for his handling of sensitive assignments.

He was also the Aide De Camp of late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala during his eleven-month tenure from 2006-2007. As tributes pour in for the fallen officer, questions linger over the true circumstances of his demise.
