A 35-year-old zoo worker at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, tragically lost his life on Saturday after being attacked by a lion in its enclosure.

The victim, Babaji Daule, a lion handler from Bauchi State, reportedly forgot to properly secure the locks and barricade the animal’s enclosure before approaching to feed the lion.

This lapse allowed the lion to escape and fatally maul Daule, inflicting severe injuries to his neck.

Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.

The handler’s body was taken to Ijaye General Hospital mortuary, while the lion was shot to free the victim from its grip.
