Malian Army Kills 21 Terrorists in Sébégougou

The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have killed atleast 21 terrorists in a decisive military operation aimed at dismantling armed groups in Sébégougou, located in the Diéma circle of the Nioro du Sahel region, the military confirmed on Monday.

The offensive, launched in the early hours of April 28, follows a series of operations conducted earlier this month that had already weakened terrorist cells operating in the area.

According to the FAMa, the latest action succeeded in neutralising entrenched elements of the groups responsible for terrorising local populations and destabilising the region.

The targeted groups, some of which had retreated to Sébégougou following FAMa assaults on April 11 and 15, suffered heavy losses during a combination of ground operations and precision airstrikes.

In response to an ambush laid by the militants on Sunday, FAMa units mounted a swift and forceful counterattack, eventually forcing the insurgents to abandon their positions.

The army report that 21 bodies of armed fighters were recovered, and dozens of weapons, transport vehicles, and communication devices were seized. No casualties were reported on the FAMa side.

Terrorist factions identified as originating from TONGUI, NIAMAKORO, KOULOUFLADIENGUE, and other localities were reportedly behind recent attacks and coercive actions that led to mass civilian displacement in Sébégougou and neighbouring Kwala, AES Info reported.
