The White House has announced that Michelle Yeoh, the Oscar-winning actress, is among the 19 distinguished individuals who will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom this year.

President Joe Biden took to Twitter to share the news, posting a video of the recipients stating, “Folks, it’s my honour to present the nineteen extraordinary Americans who will join me at the White House this afternoon to receive our nation’s highest civilian honour, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

The Presidential Medal of Freedom, presented annually, is the highest civilian honour in the United States. It is awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the success and security of the nation, world peace, and other exceptional endeavours.

Yeoh made history with her performance in the 2022 film “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” She became the first Asian woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, solidifying her place as a trailblazer in the film industry.
