Nigerian Animation ‘Iwaju’ to Start Streaming on Disney Plus in February

The eagerly anticipated sci-fi animation series, Iwaju, co-produced by Kugali Media and Disney Animation, has officially set February 28, 2024, as its premiere date.

A teaser dropped on Monday, January 22, 2024, solidifying the announcement from the 2023 African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) that the series will make its debut in 2024.

Iwaju is set in futuristic Lagos and tells the story of a young girl named Tola from a prosperous island and her tech-savvy friend, Kole. Their friendship is tested by Bode who hides a criminal underworld.

As the release date draws near, the cast behind the animated characters is unveiled, featuring the voices of Nigerian-American actors Dayo Okeniyi, Simisola Gbadamosi, Femi Branch, Siji Soetan, and British-Nigerian actress Weruche Opia.

In tandem with the animated series, Kugali Media plans to unveil a documentary titled Iwájú: A Day Ahead. Directed by Megan Harding and executive produced by Amy Astley and Beth Hoppe, the documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the founders of their Pan-African entertainment company, shot across three continents.
