Obasanjo Showing Senility Symptoms, APC Fires Back at ex-President

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has reacted to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent criticism of the Tinubu-led administration. Obasanjo argued that the current government’s policies were wrongly implemented.

Obasanjo, who spoke at a colloquium in Abuja on Sunday, noted that the Tinubu administration had failed to stimulate investor confidence through its policies.

He specifically criticised two of the administration’s significant policies, floating the naira and removing fuel subsidies, describing them as necessary but wrongly implemented.

Reacting to the former President’s criticism, the National Director of the ruling party, Bala Ibrahim, argued that Obasanjo is afflicted by old age and showing symptoms of senility (the deterioration of cognitive functions).

Ibrahim, who spoke with The PUNCH on Monday, said, “As a Nigerian and someone who respects Obasanjo, I think senility is beginning to come in. Obasanjo is beginning to manifest the symptoms.

“Obasanjo has been consistent in his criticisms of people in leadership positions apart from himself. So, this is not an isolated case. President Bola Tinubu is not the first to be attacked by Obasanjo. Buhari and Jonathan were also victims of his criticisms. He himself did not fare better when he was the leader. In fact, Obasanjo superintended the balkanisation of the Nigerian economy.

“How can he say someone who is trying to put the economy on a better pedestal is not doing the right thing? I am not a spokesman for Tinubu. Even though the party has discussed him, to my knowledge, I practically feel Obasanjo has erred as he has always been doing.”

Meanwhile, an NBS review of a year-on-year food inflation rate noted an increase from 24.35% in February 2023 to 37.92% in February 2024, while the naira took a downward turn since Tinubu’s assumption of office.
