Shettima: Nigeria in Davos not to beg, we carry our poverty with dignity

On Thursday, Vice President Kashim Shettima stated that Nigeria and the African continent attend World Economic Forum 2024 in Davos, Switzerland, for negotiations, not begging. According to him, the African nations seek to negotiate with the West on equal grounds as the continent is “the richest in the world.”
The Vice President said this during an exclusive interview with Arise TV. His precise words include:
“We are not a poor nation by any standard; we’re not a poor continent. We do not come to the West begging; we want to deal with them on mutually beneficial terms because ours is the richest continent in the world.
“The whole countries of Europe, their resources are not up to the resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is why I said we carry our poverty with dignity.”
The statement by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, becomes very interesting considering the lip-jamming amount the Federal Republic of Nigeria owes as public debt, estimated at 87.91trn as of 30 September 2023.
