South Africa’s Ramaphosa Sworn In For Second Term

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa was sworn in for a second term on Wednesday after an alliance involving his party, African National Congress (ANC), the ‘white-supremacist’ Democratic Alliance, and other parties in the parliament.
Ramaphosa was challenged in parliament by Julius Malema of the far-left Economic Freedom Fighters. The incumbent won after polling 283 votes against Malema’s 44 in the 400-member House.
Ramaphosa’s ANC was forced into a coalition after it failed to secure an absolute majority in the May 29 election.
Some analysts have expressed concern over the alliance between the ANC (a former liberation movement that ended apartheid rule) and the centrist DA based on ideological differences.
Ramaphosa, during his swearing-in on Wednesday, received a 21-gun salute, military fly-bys and a parade of honour by servicemen.
