Spain Wins Euro 2024 Title with Thrilling 2-1 Win over England

511

The Euro 2024 final, played in Berlin today, ended with Spain’s 2-1 win over England to emerge champions of the tournament. This win makes Spain the first country to win the Euros four times.

The match began with intense competition, but it wasn’t until the second half that Spain took the lead. Nico Williams scored early in the half, giving Spain a 1-0 advantage.

In the 60th minute, Harry Kane, England captain, was subbed off for Olie Watkins.

England hit back with an equaliser from substitute Cole Palmer in the 73rd minute. The fine break saw Bukayo Saka start things by carrying the ball before releasing Jude Bellingham inside the box.

He turned for Cole Palmer, whose fired shot from slightly right of centre sailed past Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon to level things at 1-1.

Spain, however, restored the lead in the 83rd minute, to the apparent surprise of the England defence.

Marc Cucurella was afforded the space and released a pass from the left wing, as forward Mikel Oyarzabal made a lunge, poking it into England’s goal past goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who had some challenge from Marc Guehi but only just got it back.

The goal was checked for offside but was awarded after the check.

England made some late substitutions to swing the game in their favour.

Ivan Toney came on for Phil Foden in the 89th minute, with several attempts to have an equaliser, but in the end, the match ended in a 2-1 win for Spain.

Lamine Yamal, a star of the tournament, broke a record by having either a goal or assist in the quarter-final, semi-final, and final, respectively.
