Suspected terrorists attacked a military base in Gujba town, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, claiming the life of a soldier and torching an army patrol vehicle.

Confirming the incident, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesperson for the Yobe State Police Command, provided details to The PUNCH, stating, “The only thing I can confirm to you now is the attack. A soldier was killed, and troops and CJTF engaged the suspected terrorists.”

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing ordeal as the assailants struck the town around midnight, unleashing gunfire indiscriminately before launching their assault on the military base.

Modu Bahna, a resident of Gujba, described the chaos, stating,

“They (suspected terrorists) stormed the town some minutes after midnight, shooting sporadically and majority of us took to our heels into the surrounding bushes for our dear lives.”

Despite the mayhem, reports indicated that the attackers did not target civilians or loot essential commodities.

Dala Bukar, another local source, affirmed to The PUNCH, “They only attacked the two patrol vehicles in the military base where a soldier was killed.”

In response to the attack, troops and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)  engaged the suspected terrorists, ultimately repelling them and chasing them into the surrounding bush.
