Nigerian singer Tems has won the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards, securing her second Grammy win.

She earned the award with her song Love Me JeJe, surpassing other nominees including Yemi Alade’s Tomorrow, Asake and Wizkid’s MMS, Chris Brown, Davido, and Lojay’s Sensational, and Burna Boy’s Higher.

Tems, who now has two Grammy wins and eight career nominations, was also in the running for Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild) and Best R&B Song (Burning) but lost to Matt B and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and SZA’s Saturn, respectively.

During her acceptance speech at the Los Angeles-based ceremony on Sunday, she thanked God and dedicated the award to her mother, who was celebrating her birthday.

Tems’ latest achievement places her among Nigeria’s Grammy winners, including Burna Boy, who won Best Global Music Album in 2021. The Best African Music Performance category debuted in 2024, with South African singer Tyla winning first for her song Water.
