Tyla, Shaboozey Win At 2024 Billboard Music Awards

South African artist Tyla emerged victorious at the 2024 Billboard Music Awards, taking home two prestigious awards: Top Afrobeats Artist and Top Afrobeats Song for her hit track “Water.” To claim the titles, Tyla triumphed over prominent Nigerian stars like Burna Boy, Tems, Rema, and Asake.

The event also featured Tyla’s electric performances of “Push 2 Start” and “Shake Ah,” marking her debut on the Billboard stage

Meanwhile, American singer Taylor Swift dominated the event, winning ten awards, including Top Artist, solidifying her position as the most decorated artist in BBMA history with 49 total wins.

Nigerian-American singer Shaboozey also made waves, securing three significant awards: Top Song Sales Artist, Top Selling Song, and Top Country Song. His hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” became the longest-running No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, holding the top spot for 20 weeks and surpassing the record set by Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.”

Shaboozey also performed twice during the event, delivering energetic renditions of “A Bar Song” and “Highway.” He joins Beyoncé as one of the few Black artists to top the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts with his achievements.
