The Board of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed former football star Finidi George as the new Head Coach of the Senior Men National Football Team, the Super Eagles.

The appointment follows the recommendation of the Technical and Development.

Having served as an assistant to José Santos Peseiro for 20 months, George stepped into the interim role during recent friendly matches in Morocco.

Under his guidance, the Super Eagles secured a historic victory against Ghana, ending an 18-year winless streak against their rivals.

However, a subsequent loss to Mali shows the possible challenges ahead for George and his team.

Renowned as part of the ‘Golden Generation’ that clinched the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations title and made a memorable debut at the FIFA World Cup in the same year, George brings a wealth of playing experience to his coaching role.

With 62 caps for Nigeria and notable achievements in both domestic and European football.

George will immediately focus on leading the Super Eagles to victory in crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and the Benin Republic.

With the team trailing behind in Group C, these upcoming fixtures are pivotal for Nigeria’s World Cup aspirations.
